A BUNGEE jumper who plummeted 160ft to her death is believed to have died of a heart attack mid-air after realising she wasn’t attached to the bungee cord.
Yecenia Morales Gómez, 25, tragically died when she followed the wrong signal to jump before she even hit the ground.
And now a medical report suggests that the woman’s cause of death was not the fall as it would have been expected.
According to the report seen by Noticias Caracol, the 25-year-old suffered a heart attack during her fall and was dead before she hit the ground.
The lawyer was getting ready for her first bungee jump with her boyfriend, in the province of Antioquia, Colombia.
Distressing footage taken by onlookers show the moment the instructor yells to her boyfriend ”jump now” but Gomez gets confused thinking he means her and jumps to her death.
Her boyfriend immediately rushed to her side and tried to perform CPR but she was already dead.
Firefighters from Amagá who arrived at the scene said:”Sadly the woman did not have any vital signs and we later recovered the body.
”With the help of professionals who were nearby, we performed first aid to her partner.”
Gustavo Guzmán, the mayor of the municipality of Fredonia, Antioquia explained to El Tiempo: ”She got confused. The signal was for the boyfriend to jump because he was already attached to the security equipment.
”They had only put the harness on her so she got confused and rushed.”
The woman was buried after a ceremony at Simón Bolívar neighbourhood in Medellín, where she lived with her family.
Her devastated brother Andrés Morales described her as a happy woman who loved to read and dance and had an entrepreneurial spirit.
He said: ”My sister is a girl with all the best values, happy, spontaneous, with virtues that made her love her friends, and helped the people in need.”
El Tiempo reports that according to the mayor of Fredonia, there are two companies offering bungee jumping in the area, none of which have permission to do so.
An investigation into the woman’s death is underway.
